Twisted Sister has canceled its planned 50th anniversary reunion performances after frontman Dee Snider announced he can no longer perform full concerts due to ongoing health challenges.
The band confirmed the decision through a news release posted on its official website, alongside statements from Snider and his bandmates. The cancellation affects all scheduled reunion dates, beginning April 25 in São Paulo, Brazil, and continuing through the summer.
According to the band, Snider, 70, has been dealing privately with serious physical issues for years. The statement revealed that the singer suffers from degenerative arthritis and has undergone multiple surgeries, allowing him to perform only a limited number of songs at a time, often while in pain. The release also disclosed that Snider has recently learned that decades of high-intensity performances have taken a toll on his heart.
“A lifetime of legendarily aggressive performing has taken its toll on Dee Snider’s body and soul. Unbeknownst to the public (until now) Snider (70) suffers from degenerative arthritis and has had several surgeries over the years just to keep going, able to only perform a few songs at a time in pain,” the statement read.
Snider addressed the decision directly in his own statement, emphasizing that altering his performance style was not an option for him.
“I don’t know of any other way to rock,” Snider said. “The idea of slowing down is unacceptable to me. I’d rather walk away than be a shadow of my former self.”
Band members Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda said Snider’s resignation from performing full concerts left the group with no choice but to cancel the reunion plans.
“Due to the sudden and unexpected resignation of Twisted Sister’s lead singer Dee Snider brought on by a series of health challenges, the band has been forced to cancel all shows scheduled,” their statement said. “The future of Twisted Sister will be determined in the next several weeks.”
Twisted Sister officially retired from touring following a farewell run that concluded in late 2016. Since then, the band has performed only once, reuniting briefly in January 2023 for a performance tied to its Metal Hall of Fame induction.
In September 2025, the group announced plans to reunite for a 2026 world tour in celebration of its 50th anniversary. While only a handful of dates had been revealed, all announced shows have now been canceled, and no replacement plans have been confirmed.
