The Obamas Head to Broadway: Barack, Michelle to Co-Produce 'Proof' Revival

The Obamas are teaming-up to co-produce the revival of David Auburn’s Tony Award-winning play “Proof.”

President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama will make their Broadway debuts under the production banner High Ground. They’ll join the previously-announced producing team including Mike Bosner and director Thomas Kail.

“Proof” will appear on Broadway for a limited 16-week engagement at the Booth Theatre on March 31, followed by an opening on April 16, “reawakening a haunting story of brilliance, inheritance, and belief.”

The play delves into the story of Catherine, the daughter of a recently-deceased mathematician, who finds a landmark proof among her father’s papers. Catherine must navigate her way through life — living in her father’s legacy alongside mental illness.

Previously, “Proof” premiered Off-Broadway at the Manhattan Theatre Club in 2000; the production sold-out during its initial run before it transferred to the Main Stem, where it received three Tony Awards. “Proof” closed on Broadway in 2003 and was adapted into a feature film in 2005, starring Anthony Hopkins and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The cast includes Ayo Edebiri, Don Cheadle, Samira Wiley, and Jin Ha. Emmy winner Edebiri and Golden Globe winner Cheadle will make their Broadway debuts.

Tickets are available now via the production’s official website.
