Live Nation has reached an agreement to acquire Copenhagen’s Royal Arena, positioning the company to take full ownership of the 17,000-capacity venue beginning in 2026.
The promoter has operated the arena since its opening in 2017, and the deal will bring the building fully under its control as part of its international venue growth strategy.
Royal Arena was listed for sale in October by co-owners Realdania and the City of Copenhagen. The partners confirmed the sale agreement but did not disclose financial terms. Realdania, a philanthropic association focused on architecture and urban development, said the sale fits with its long-term approach to its projects.
Live Nation plans to introduce a series of upgrades to the fan experience, venue operations, and sustainability programs once the acquisition is completed. The company said enhancements will include expanded VIP offerings, upgraded backstage areas for touring crews, community-focused amenities for local residents, and additional improvements that build on features such as The Vinyl Room, an exclusive lounge introduced in partnership with Bang & Olufsen.
Royal Arena’s sustainability-forward design, created by Danish architecture firm 3XN, was built around Cradle to Cradle-certified materials and fully recyclable wooden fins. Live Nation indicated it will continue advancing these initiatives through rooftop solar panels, a complete conversion to LED lighting, and the installation of two 4.5 MW batteries capable of storing renewable energy. These additions are expected to reduce annual energy consumption by more than 800,000 kWh.
Royal Arena CEO Anders Kjørup shared, “From the first concert in 2017, when Metallica took to the stage, the Danes have been in love with this amazing building — delivering world-class experiences for artists and fans alike,” he said.
“Now, as both owner and operator, Live Nation is even more committed to the venue and the surrounding area, and we look forward to developing it for many years to come.”
Realdania CEO Nina Kovsted Helk said the decision to sell aligns with the organization’s mission and project timeline.
“We’re proud to have helped bring a world-class multi-purpose arena to Copenhagen – and to Denmark as a whole,” she said.
“It was never Realdania’s intention to be the long-term owner of the arena, and the time has now come to sell. We’re therefore very pleased with this agreement.”
Located in the Ørestad district, Royal Arena has become one of Denmark’s most active entertainment venues, hosting major artists including Metallica, Billie Eilish, Justin Timberlake, Olivia Rodrigo, and Rod Stewart, along with Danish performers such as MØ.
